Heritage farmhouse on the Dordogne

Complete interior design and decoration project for a heritage stone farmhouse on the banks of the Dordogne river, near Libourne in the Bordeaux wine region, southwest France. Across 266 m² spread over two floors, this character property has been reimagined as a luxury family second home, blending high-end standing, French refinement and a true artistic statement throughout. • The brief: This stone farmhouse on the banks of the Dordogne has been passed down through our clients' family for several generations. Living abroad and visiting France regularly, they wanted to give it a renovation worthy of its history and turn it into a family second home, ideal for welcoming children and close friends during their stays. Our mission: oversee the entire interior decoration, the selection of furniture, artworks and decorative pieces, through to receiving the design elements on site and the precise placement of wall sconces and artworks. The challenge was to bring a luxurious standing to this old stone building while preserving the soul and identity that come from its family heritage. Passionate collectors of fine art, the clients wanted a genuine artistic presence to be felt in every space. Walnut, brass and natural materials form the guiding thread of the entire project.

    • The dining room is organised around a large three-metre reception table, designed as a true sculpture: a glass top, visually weightless, resting on a central pedestal of brass-toned metallic mesh. A darker-toned sideboard creates contrast and showcases a large artwork, giving the whole the allure of an elegant reception room capable of gathering many guests.

    • The living room plays on light tones to preserve the full volume of the space and capture the natural light from outside. Multiple accent light sources create a warm atmosphere at the end of the day. A perfect space both for conversation among friends and for relaxing in front of the television.

    • Outdoors, the objective was to recapture French country charm. Wrought-iron furniture harmonises with the stone façade of the farmhouse, and several distinct zones, a garden lounge and a large dining table, invite guests to unwind and gather, making the most of the view on warm summer days.

    • Upstairs are the bedrooms, bathrooms and a games room. Each bedroom has its own identity while preserving a restrained palette requested by the clients: dark wood, soft beige textures and brass accents. This restraint allows every guest to fully settle into the space, in a luxurious standing elevated by a French touch, as in the Monceau bedroom, where a magnificent desk takes on its full meaning.

    • The games room was designed as an enveloping, hushed atmosphere, perfect for intimate moments. It brings together everything needed: a bar, a relaxation area, a pinball machine and a magnificent pool table as the centrepiece, set against deep tones energised by colourful decorative pieces.

    • The gallery hallway, finally, was conceived as a true art gallery. It hosts numerous artworks in a vibrant street-art spirit, intentionally contrasting with the softer atmosphere of the adjoining bedrooms.

A project designed to share beautiful moments with family and friends, blending styles without ever losing sight of the French sensibility to fully embrace the identity of this Gironde country home.
